treasures old and new

This past week I discovered the dining table was a great place to cut out fabric. I also discovered that Mark really doesn't want my work taking over the dining room!

So, today I had a stroke of almost-genius and swiped our old dining table from off the back porch.

Voila, instant work space. It's not quite ideal, but I saved a little square footage by stuffing my fabric underneath. And, best of all, it was free!

As for that "new" treasure? Well, today I am happy to say...I found the holy grail of paint-by-numbers....

The Last Supper! How awesome is that? For all of $5.

[I would never use this blog as a platform to try to influence your beliefs (or any platform for that matter! my beliefs are more "apathetic" than anything), and I would hope for the same respect from my readers, but I just want to note that in our household, this painting is valued more for its kitsch and its humor than any intrinsic meaning...]

I think it's going above the archway between the living & dining rooms, if I can ever get Mark to help me hang anything.

metal monstrosity

DSC_5781

Had no idea when I started on this thing that it would end up so huge! Okay, so, it's three sets....so I should have been able to guess. But I've never had them all put together in one unit before.

Dear Martha,
Please give me the strength, inspiration, and knowledge to finish unpacking and decorating my household, have a successful yard sale next weekend, use the metal monstrosity to my best organizational advantage, and craft daily with excitement and curiosity.
Amen.

Oh, also. Last night I got a fortune cookie that said "Tomorrow will be very productive, don't oversleep!", and being a pretty big believer in fortunes, I got up at 8ish. Then I started feeling really sick and yuck, so I went back to bed at 9 and slept until noon, all the while having this terrible dream where I wasn't sure if I was asleep or awake, and could not for the life of me wake up. FAIL.

Anyway, I'm going to go fill up that stupid shelf thingie so I feel like I accomplished something today.

the girl with no internet

Hi!

DSC_5274

We had an impromptu move last Thursday in anticipation of coming rain. The rain wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be, but it was a great excuse to get settled in to the new house. Which we love.

You know what else I love?

This incredible hutch I found at our favorite local antique mall this weekend.

I had actually seen it a few months ago and considered it at full price. When I saw it had been marked down to $75 last weekend, I was....yeah. I started to need it. But I was alone, and without a truck! When we went back this weekend and it was still there, I knew it was meant to be.

I'm going to add a few holes so two of the shelves are tall enough for the dolls to be standing (I think they look more like a grown-up collection that way and less like toys).

And the bottom is perfect for quilt and works-in-progress storage. Yay.

A couple other loves:

We have lots of neighborhood kitties! A little girl told me this one's name is Echo. He was squirrelin' in our back yard today.

Yard work! I did a bit this weekend for basically the first time ever (besides helping mom when I was little). There are some gorgeous plants at the house but it's completely over grown. Notice the maple trees growing beside the irises? Yeaaah, those are going to have to go! I never knew weeding would be fun. I'm guessing it won't be next spring when it's less novel.

Oh yeah, and about the title? I'm leading a double life. Amazingly productive and disconnected at the house, interneting at the loft. Hence the lack of updates. Hopefully that will get fixed this week!

home show

These are kind of crap, but I love pictures of empty houses. In fact, the last project I worked on before leaving the photography program was of empty rental houses. I need to get that portfolio back from my friend...

tiniest bathroom ever, but a window, and charm, and built in storage

a fireplace, mantle, crazy lighting, and tiny windows! love symmetry so much

Anyway, sorry for my absence, we have added moving to my huge list of to-do's so I am a bit crazy right now! It finally stopped raining so I'm heading over to the house today for a few fun projects. I'll share soon. :)

home again home again

How many times can one girl move in a one year period? So far, three.

We're getting a house! No...not buying, just renting.

We threw our hat in for it on Friday and all weekend I was a mess of daydreaming.

Daydreaming about...

glass front cabinets in the kitchen...

a (possibly working gas?) fireplace and mantle...

a washer and drier(!)...

a dishwasher(!!)...

as well as a garbage disposal, swinging kitchen door, full basement with room for the boy to play music in, screened in back porch, detached two car garage, two bedrooms (one of which will be my dedicated sewing room/office!..with three windows and a small closet!), and a backyard with room to grow.

Granted, you have to imagine it is a very dull looking rental house that at one time had hardwood floors and now has bad laminate and bad hotel carpet.

BUT it's got the bones and we've got the meat and in the coming weeks we are going to make it work.
